VENDETTA CARTEL & PISTOL WHIP 45 , live @ Belavista

•June 1, 2010 • 1 Comment

Belavista Lounge hosts a special night of hardcore punk this Saturday evening, 5 June, as The Vendetta Cartel and Pistolwhip 45 take the stage. The lead singer of The Vendetta Cartel, Vinnie Reyes, will be filmed by a Chilean television crew as part of a documentary on Chilean World Cup defender, Mark Gonzalez, who happens to be the cousin of the Vendetta Cartel’s frontman. Mark Gonzalez was born in Durban and his father, also a former Chilean international, played for Durban Bush Bucks before moving his family back to Chile. Gonzalez currently plays football for CSKA Moscow and has previously played at Liverpool and Real Betis. He will be in South Africa during Chile’s World Cup campaign and as part of the experience Chilean TV are filming a documentary about him, which will include the night at Belavista Lounge. Vinnie Reyes is one of the foremost exponents of the punk rock scene in South Africa and as the cousin of the Chilean football star has received a certain amount of interest from the filmmakers. To be part of the action and maybe meet a few famous people or get yourself into a Chilean documentary, get down to Belavista Lounge on Saturday 5 June. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost R30 at the door.

” ALL CLEAR ” Live @ Belavista

•May 30, 2010 • Leave a Comment

ALL CLEAR launches its debut album NO VIP’S at 10pm on 4 June at the Belavista Lounge, Ellis Park. The album contains 13 tracks covering a range of styles and rhythms – rock, reggae, funk fusion and some jazzy ballads. The lyrics, as the title track indicates, carry some weight, commenting as they do on the criminally superficial mass culture we live in. ‘The song ‘Still No Hour of Liberation’ is a rock/reggae exploration of the crisis facing Africa, while ‘Manacled’ examines the desperate life of a young delinquent, while ‘Do We Need Another Lesson’ details the abyss of corruption and hypocrisy that is drowning the emerging global human society and IntenCity pounds out the nocturnal fear that afflicts our cities. At the same time there are lyrical songs like ‘Hazy Heat’, ‘Dineo’ and ‘Midnight’ that express humour and tenderness. ‘Poetry meets Rock’ is probably the best way to describe a band that urges the listener to not only dance but think!!! Definitely a new and original sound for Mzansi.

The band is made up of Allan Kolski Horwitz (songwriter and vocalist), Alex Dimie Samuel (keyboard), Augustus Brown (guitar), Walter Dikgale (keyboard), Gideon Isele (bass) and Daniel Isele (drums). Entrance R40.00

As children we dream of flying; only in those dreams are we truly free.
As we grow up and learn the true the price of freedom we forget to dream. We forget how to fly.

But maybe we can remember for a while, while standing sky-high on the Belavista roof and looking out over the breathtaking urban landscape below as artists, musicians and various creative spirits gather to share pieces of dreams of their own.

Join us on the 15th of May from 5pm – to watch the sunset – until late.

Entrance is R40, or R30 if you bring us an origami crane.
